Biosphere Institude of the Bow Valley
The Biosphere Institute of the Bow Valley is a non-profit organization that empowers community leadership to address environmental challenges.
It’s work addresses human-wildlife coexistence and climate change through three core programs: WildSmart Community Program, Shift: Climate Transitions, and Future Leaders.
They also serve as a community hub where citizens can access local environmental information, learn about how to get involved in conservation programs, and build ideas for new community-led initiatives.
Bow Valley Food Alliance
The Bow Vallley Food Alliance is a network committed to creating local food systems that are healthy, socially-just, collaborative, diverse, and accessible. These food systems are based in vibrant regional economies, respect for the earth and environment, reconciliation, intergenerational knowledge, system innovation and education.
What we do
Connecting people – facilitating and strengthening interactions, identifying community needs and gaps & creating responsive and relevant initiatives to tackle them; bringing people together, starting from what exists.
Coordinating efforts - to make the best use of our resources, accessing mutual funding and volunteer opportunities.
Advocating for change – speaking with one voice to change policies and challenge the status quo i.e. the belief that access to affordable, healthy food will always be limited in the Bow Valley.
Educating – increasing awareness & knowledge in the broader community, by serving as content experts in community food security.
Inspiring action – leading by example, generating momentum & empowering community leaders, creating a replicable model.
Bow Valley Clean Air Society
The Bow Valley Clean Air Society is a volunteer non-profit society based in Canmore. We are a group of concerned and engaged residents who, through evidence-based research, monitoring, and education, work with community organizations, all levels of government, businesses, and individuals to continuously improve the air quality in the Bow Valley.

Bow Valley Naturalists
With a history dating back to 1967, the Bow Valley Naturalists play a fundamental part in the preservation of the Bow Valley. We are a group of nature lovers, advocates, and researchers who aim to protect, preserve, and stimulate better appreciation for natural ecosystems in the Bow Valley.
What we do

We advocate concerns to the government and other stakeholders.
Bow Valley Climate Action
Bow Valley Climate Action Society believes that individual as well as collective action on climate can make a difference and we seek to accelerate that action. Our goal is to galvanize citizen engagement in the Bow Valley, promoting civil citizen dialogue that spurs individual and collective action to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. Our key areas of focus are greenhouse gas emissions from buildings, greenhouse gas emissions from transportation and local advocacy.

Our mission is to promote the growth and preservation of urban forests in order to enhance the health and well- being of our communities. We strive to educate and engage individuals and organizations in the importance of trees and green spaces and to advocate for policies and practices that support the sustainable management of urban forests. Through our efforts, we aim to create a healthier, more resilient, and more beautiful environment for all.
